The Pagne 'Fleur de mariage' is probably the best known of the WAXes and is still printed today in classic colours, like the one in the photo, or in new collections.
It is not among the oldest Vlisco drawings, dating back to 1979, and when it came out it was especially popular in Nigeria.
The popular name 'Fleur de mariage' was given to it in the Ivory Coast. It is a hibiscus flower, which in those countries symbolizes joy, 'le bonheur', and is in fact offered to future spouses.
Another interesting feature, which has undoubtedly contributed to its popularity, is the placement of the printed motif on the cotton. For tailoring, which is the norm in West African countries, this fabric can be cut and sewn in either the warp, weft, or bias direction. Here are two original variations, one in Vlisco and another in Uniwax.
These are from the “Wax block Classique” line by the Ivorian brand Uniwax, which add to the two-tone Wax Prints that you have been able to find in our assortment for about a year.
The price of 1 yard is €14 and the measurement is 90cm x 116cm. The width is always 116cm. The fabric can be made in lengths up to 6 yards (540cm). You can choose the quantity you want, if available, in the yardage options (so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 yards).
